As a freelance photographer and filmmaker, Xiao Lin grew up in Yangzhou, China and moved to Kingston, Canada at 18 to study filmmaking at Queen’s University. Currently, Xiao is based in Toronto.
Xiao has been interested in photography since she was a teenager. Then, she systematically studied photography theory at Queen's University, especially landscape and portrait photography. At the same time, Xiao also dabbled in commercial photography and is good at using her distinctive perspective to show the unseen qualities of the subject.
With a feminist lens, Xiao’s films explore themes of womanhood and intergenerational relationships. As a screenwriter, photographer, director, and producer, she thrives both in leading creative teams and fostering collaboration. Currently, Xiao is completing her first documentary, a project that embodies her critical thinking on aging and woman identity.
